APBF 2023 Evaristo Prize for African Poetry (Up to $1,500)
The Evaristo Prize for African Poetry is an annual award presented to ten poems composed by an African poet.
Originally established as the Brunel International African Poetry Prize (BIAPP) in 2012 by British author Bernardine Evaristo, who administered the prize for a decade, the Evaristo Prize was rebranded and entrusted to the African Poetry Book Fund in 2022.
A close partner of APBF, the BIAPP aimed to "encourage a new generation of poets who might one day become an international presence."
The excellence of BIAPP winners continues to be recognized worldwide as many of these poets have gone on to publish chapbooks, full-length poetry collections, and receive additional accolades. The BIAPP announced its final winner in May 2022.
